This captivating three-day desert adventure from Marrakech to Merzouga offers an unforgettable experience through Morocco’s diverse landscapes, with plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in its natural beauty and rich culture.
The journey begins by crossing the High Atlas Mountains, where you’ll marvel at stunning vistas and traditional Berber villages. You’ll then explore the historic and cinematic town of Ouarzazate, known as the “Gateway to the Sahara,” before continuing to the breathtaking Dades Valley, famous for its impressive rock formations and lush oases.
On the second day, travel deeper into the desert landscapes of the Todgha Gorges, where sheer cliffs tower above you, offering an incredible setting for a walk. As you approach Merzouga, the heart of the Moroccan Sahara, you’ll experience a camel trek over the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, witnessing a magical sunset. Spend the night in a traditional desert camp under a blanket of stars, enjoying local music and a delicious Moroccan dinner.
On the final day, wake early to catch the sunrise over the dunes before heading back to Marrakech, taking with you a lifetime of memories from this extraordinary desert adventure.
Marrakech
At 8:00 a.m., your driver will meet you at your hotel, and you’ll set off in a 4×4 from Marrakech towards the Dades Valley. The journey begins by crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2260m) in the High Atlas Mountains. Along the scenic route from Marrakech to Ouarzazate, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of varied landscapes, colorful terrains, and traditional Berber villages. There will be time to explore the historic Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou and stop for lunch. Afterward, the journey continues southeast through the lush Dades Valley and the city of roses, passing by the captivating Skoura palm grove. You’ll have dinner and spend the night in the Dades Valley.
After breakfast, we’ll journey along the road known as the “Route of 1000 Kasbahs,” passing by the vibrant Berber villages scattered throughout the Dades Valley. After traveling 45 kilometers, we will reach Tineghir, home to a stunning palm grove and a historic Jewish quarter. We’ll continue to the breathtaking Todgha Gorges, where you’ll have free time to hike through the impressive 300-meter-high canyons, a renowned spot for rock climbing enthusiasts. Next, we’ll head toward the Erg Chebbi dunes in the Merzouga Sahara Desert, stopping for lunch en route before reaching Erfoud. From there, we’ll make our way to the iconic sand dunes of Erg Chebbi. Upon arrival at a nearby hotel, you’ll be greeted with a refreshing glass of tea before embarking on a camel trek. Once we reach the desert camp, we’ll ride camels to witness the spectacular sunset from the top of the dunes. Back at the camp, enjoy dinner and spend an unforgettable night in tents under the star-filled sky.
Wake up early to welcome the dawn and admire the breathtaking sunrise amidst the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Following a breakfast accompanied by mint tea, ride your camels back across the desert to your hotel, where you can refresh and shower. From Merzouga, travel directly to the Dra’a Valley, following the ancient caravan trails through off-road paths to Agdez. Arrive in Marrakech by late afternoon, where you will be dropped off at your pre-arranged accommodation.
